Tinus de Jong was obsessed with light, mainly influenced by Dutch Impressionists, and unwilling to associate with any current art trends (Weckesser 2013:48, 80). His reluctance to develop a more conceptual vision according to Weckesser (2013:87) “lay rooted in his belief in the perfection of nature. He was convinced that artistic license could be employed in order to alter nature on the canvas for aesthetic reasons, for the enhancement of nature or for dramatic impact. But never would he distort the image – that he regarded as sacrosanct.”
