Medium: Bronze – eddition 5/33
Unframed: 40cm x 57 x 36cm
For Dylan Lewis, the leopard is an animal totem. In his book, Dylan Lewis. An Untamed Force, he (2015:17) he explains that “We are drawn to role models not only for what they are, but for what they mirror in ourselves.”
Dylan identifies with the leopard he is so known for sculpting. The qualities that he resonates with are: “its solitary ways, its ghost-like ability to move through and merge with the background, its vulnerability, power, sensuousness – and its unnameability” (Lewis 2015:17). For him, these artworks should bring our attention to the precarious existence of these magnificent wild creatures and their shrinking, threatened habitats (Lewis 2015:17).
