After the second world war the art market went into decline. To weather the collapse of the art market Boonzaier took art to the platteland (countryside). He saw it as his calling to educate the public about art. He concentrated on young people, students, and community leaders. For a period of 12 years from 1946 until 1958 Boonzaier gave lectures and held exhibitions in more than 40 towns from Cape Town to Zimbabwe. According to Martin Bekker (1990:31) “no town too small, no community too poor or unsophisticated…His travels introduced art to people in isolated areas and also made him thousands of friends. His name and his art became known by many.”
