Angus Taylor is known for his ability to create larger than life monumental sculptures. He has managed to free his work from the political baggage of the past as well as the hierarchy of materials by changing his medium from bronze to that of Belfast granite, Marico slate, rammed earth, sticks and thatching grass (Myburg 2017:6,8).
In the sculpture installation, Hier, Angus very directly communicates his view of “public art without an agenda” through the choice of using Marico slate. He strengthened this idea through the representation of a generic male figure. This man represents any man and replaces the heroic figures from history typically represented in public sculpture (Myburg 2017:8).
