Meyer’s work in what he calls the “narrative” genre is particularly unique and compelling. It uses art to tell the story behind the story by evoking people caught in emotional ambiguities. Recently, he has used this approach in several narratives in historical settings. Meyers’ narratives are deeply profound and personal, creating a window into a private world, drawing out unusual aspects about the lives of his subjects and highlighting what is unseen by others. It engages with the viewer and encourages them interpret the paintings in a way that is meaningful to them.
